Interview: Hyun-Il Jang of NetMarble Monster discusses the development of Magic: ManaStrike and what the future could bring for the Moba
Magic: ManaStrike was published at the beginning of this year and expanded NetMarbles ever-growing list of games. It seems Magic: The Gathering inspired Mechanics with the Clash Royale style of MOBA. We recently had the opportunity to talk to Hyun-Il Jang, Development Manager at NetMarble Monster, who spoke about challenges that make up the game, his future and more.
Could you please make a small introduction to our readers?
Hello, I'm Hyun-Il Jang, Head of Development at NetMarble Monster. I'm leading the development for Magic: ManaStrike. This means that I fix the direction and details of the game, constantly check if things stay on the right way, and challenges dissolve, which occur during development.
Magic: ManaStrike was recently brought to the world, but how does it work?
So far, it works very well and we are proud of what we have achieved. Magic: ManaStrike is a PVP strategy game in real time, so the focus is not on short-term successes. We consider it with a long-term perspective. Currently there is a stable matching based on the number of players, and it is played as intended by the development team.
Do you have a specified roadmap for the future to keep the game with new content up to date?
NetMarble has a proven history in the development of games that will be successful for many years. The developer team knows Magic: ManaStrike can also remain a game value for years. To achieve this, there are a number of indicators that we consider, and the game balance is checked and adapted using the KI technology.
Based on a stable competitive environment, we plan to publish new maps and events based on Magic: The Gathering and New Planeswalker. It is also a team competitive mode in work that offers a completely different and entertaining game style.
Like this game based on Magic: The Gathering. Which elements did you consider it important if you move the game to another genre so that the feeling or the essence of MTG is still part of the game?
Magic: ManaStrike is a completely different genre as Magic: The Gathering. We wanted to offer another gameplay for those who already knew the original. We wanted to convey the essence of MTG while preserving the completeness of a real-time strategy game. We show the players not only high-quality 3D graphics, but also allow the players to felt the MTG mechanics in this genre naturally.
The development team focused on MTG card mechanisms and adapted accordingly to Magic: ManaStrike. Two examples are the ability immortal, with which units after their destruction are revived more strongly, and the ability transform in which units are transformed when specified conditions are met.
What distinguishes Magic: ManaStrike from the rest of this genre?
There are some things that MAGIC: ManaStrike make a outstanding genre. First, it has planeswalkers and five strategic colors that are controllable and displayed in high quality 3D graphics. Second, a game takes only about three minutes per round, so it is quick and easy to play.
In addition, it contains elements based on five unique colors of Planeswalkern - white, blue, black, red and green. These main features are just a few of the unique features that MAGIC: MANASTRIKE distinguishes from other real-time PVP games.
What were the biggest challenges in the development of Magic: ManaStrike? And has this changed the way you deal with future updates of the game?
For a number of MTG cards, it was very difficult to implement the cards and skills so that they work in Magic: ManaStrike and still maintain the properties of Magic: The Gathering. To use well-known cards, we have to go through a complete reproduction to meet the expectations of the fans. That was particularly difficult because Magic: ManaStrike is another genre.
After a long time, we decided to highlight the most important features of the original cards as much as possible, but to use the factors and at the same time make adjustments to be better suited for the game. For example, Daybreak Ranger and Bloodline Keeper have other attack capabilities and incantation costs than the original, but they keep the properties of transformation into Wannewolves and Vampires, which makes the game in my opinion more interesting.
If you have not played Magic: ManaStrike, it is now available on the website AppStore and Google Play. It is a free game with in-app purchases. _Search to Magic: ManaStrike Tips? We have some who help you when starting
